Feminist to Know: Nikkita “KO” Oliver

Nikkita Oliver is a “self-empowered Black queer person” and an important activist voice in Seattle as a poet, organizer, attorney, educator, and abolitionist. Oliver ran for city mayor in 2017 with the Seattle People’s Party. They were also a prominent leader in the creation of CHOP (Capitol Hill Occupied Protest) -- a radical experiment in justice, community, and abolitionist safety in the immediate aftermath of George Floyd’s murder. Oliver also serves as co-executive director at Creative Justice, an organization that promotes “an arts-based alternative to incarceration and a healing engaged youth-led community-based program.”

Oliver is a loud and brilliant abolitionist force in Seattle, connecting to wide audiences through social media and organizing networks. Though Oliver critiques the spotlight of being considered a leader, consistently emphasizing the importance of the collective. They embody feminist, progressive leadership.

Nikkita Oliver is a powerful speaker, a thoughtful rebel, and a futuristic thinker. They are the People’s mayor.
