Feminist to Know: Jex Blackmore

Jex Blackmore is a multi-disciplinary performance artist and activist based out of Detroit, Michigan. They are perhaps best known for organizing the largest Satanic gathering in history when they helped to lead the Satanic Temple and unveiled a massive monument to Baphomet in Detroit. More recently, Jex Blackmore gained attention when pausing an interview in order to take an abortion pill live on TV. Blackmore describes their work as being “focused on the relationship between moral religious rhetoric, sexuality, and political policy, takes aim at institutions of social and sexual oppression.” As Alex wrote in Political Satanism and Abortion rights, “the Reproductive Justice movement obviously benefits from refuting religious-political discourse on morality, particularly when it comes from the Christian right. Satanism offers an interesting theoretical vantage from which to critique modern colonial Christian morality discourse.”
